What is diffrance between BLACK,WHITE & GAY HAT?

Hi Friend,

i am doing SEO for several monthes but i am not aware of black, white, or gray SEO.

i had read in one site, there is three types of SEO. and they are displayed these three.

Request you to let me know about these three.

Black hat is doing things that either humans, or search engines, consider unethical.

White hat is doing things that both humans and search engines consider ethical.

Gray hat means somewhere in between.

Black hat is not a good long-term strategy, because both humans and search engines continually improve their understandings of what is considered "cheating". Search engines update their algorithms continually, and are, of course, actively trying to stop anyone using black hat techniques.

If you can find out about a black hat technique, you can be very sure that the search engines can read the same data on it that you did, and are actively trying to prevent it from working already.

Humans improve their understandings too. Hype-based marketing has been around for many decades now, and people believe it a lot less than they did when it first appeared. In fact, there are IM methods where you can get much BETTER results by being honest, than you can by using hype, now (I know this from my own experience).

So black hat is short-term, and can get you into big problems. White hat is better for the long term.

An example of what is now a gray-hat technique is LinkWheels, which a few years ago were the latest thing in how to get lots of traffic, but are, obviously enough, easy for a search engine to detect, and so now don't perform so well, unless you use more complicated strategies, like multiple-wheels, open-ended wheels etc. So this started out as what seemed to be a white-hat technique, and is now gray-hat, because it's obviously trying to cheat the search engines. It's not black hat, you won't get banned form using it, but you're no longer going to get amazing amounts of traffic from simple linkwheels.

Just adding to Chrism's points - Grey Hat can turn Black Hat. The SEs can decide that too many spammers are using a technique and ban it.

Example - The single Pixel Gif used to work a treat for me (this is where you put a link from an image that is 1px X 1px so no-one can see it but the Search Engines can) but now it is a big no-no.

In the end honesty is the best policy!

White Hat SEO- it is ethical way. Website designed by search engine guide lines.
Black Hat SEO- it is non ethical way. It works against to search engines. it breaks search engine rules.
Gray hat SEO- mixing of both

What ever you are doing in a traditional manner according to the guidelines and ethics of Search engines that is called White hat SEO, whereas doing something unethical manner to get traffic or You can say to get ranking on search engine is called black hat Seo, Like cloaking, That is you can say a very best example of black hat SEO. In between these two What falls that is Gray hat SEO.

White Hat SEO is about the way that allow you to promote your website or a legal way.
Black Hat SEO is about the way that Google do not allow you or stops you to promote your website in other words Google will penalize your website after finding you guilty.
Gray Hat SEO is about the way that Google doubts like paid links.

white seo is the safest form of seo and will benefit you in the long run. black seo is using the wrong type of methods to get quick results but risky because if google finds out you can get banned. i dont know what gray seo is :S
